Who we are.
The Gosport Society is a non-political Civic Amenity Society which is
concerned with conservation, planning and Gosport's important history.
What we do.
-
A Planning sub-committee meets regularly to study plans,
provided by the Gosport Borough Council, of planning applications in
conservation areas of the Borough. Members of the committee also
attend planning meetings at the Town Hall.
-
Our Editor compiles books of local interest, which are listed on the Publications
page of this website.
-
A Social sub-committee organises social events
for the society, which includes Summer and New Year Social Events, an
Annual Dinner and speakers for meetings held at the
Explosion Museum
-
A twice yearly Newsletter and annual programme are also sent out to
all members.
-
We also give awards
which will be made to recognise, and to stimulate public interest in,
the restoration of historic buildings and structures in the Borough.
A Green Plaque will be presented for the best project. Nominations for
the award may be made by anyone and forms are available from the Gosport
Society or downloaded from this website if you click
here.
-
The
society has, over the years, accumulated 600 plus slides. The
slides have now been digitised and are available by scanning the list
shown and sending an email, stating the number of the image that is of
interest, to
earlybennett@aol.com . To read the list click
